Internships

(Spring) Web Design & Development

Global Workers seeks an intern to work in the areas of Web Design & Development. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to get a behind-the-scenes look at how a growing non-profit revamps its online presence and shares information with its online community. The intern will work closely with our Marketing & Communications Department and Web Consultant to transpose our existing website to a new content management system (Wordpress/Drupal), work on integration of social media tools and Google Apps to the new website, and help ensure brand integrity across all communications channels.


Tasks will include:


• Help develop templates for approved website layout/site map

• Contribute ideas to new ways of presenting existing and new statistical data, and integrating it to the content management platform in a functional and engaging way for site visitors

• Help create coding requirements for the site including forms and specialized scripts

• Once site is up and running, help test all analytics


This is a great opportunity for the intern to exercise his/her creative talents in this area and make significant contributions to the finished product to add to his/her portfolio.


Requirements:


• Commit to at least 10 hours per week (flexible schedule)

• Prior experience with front-end development (HTML, CSS, XML, Javascript and simple action-scripting); back-end development (PHP)

• Knowledgeable about trends and up-to-date web design techniques

• Advanced knowledge of social media integration and a keen interest in current trends surrounding this medium

• Knowledgable about SEO

• Be motivated, have strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task

• Prior experience with Drupal content management

• Prior experience with any web design applications including Adobe (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, In-design and Flash)Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, and Photoshop


Additional Qualifications:


• Bilingual (English/Spanish)

(Summer)Communications & Development Intern

Global Workers seeks an enthusiastic intern to work on several projects over this summer in the areas of fundraising & development, administration, communications, and social media marketing. The intern will work closely with our Development Department to conduct an individual donor analysis to identify individual donor behavior and giving patterns, as well as a comparative analysis in relation to our 5th year fundraising event. This analysis will give Global Workers a more pointed understanding of how we can better engage our individual donors. With this knowledge, the intern will then help coordinate our midyear fundraising mailer.


In addition to contributing to our development efforts, the intern will work closely with our Program Assistant in the areas of communications and social media marketing to help with the transition to a brand new website, which will require the moving of content from the current site to the new one, and integrating new social media tools to our new website (uploading multimedia content such as video, audio, pictures, etc). The intern will have the opportunity to exercise his/her creative talents in this area and will have the opportunity to contribute to the finished product. The intern will then work to streamline our social media marketing efforts to ensure consistency across all platforms Global Workers employs, which in turn will strengthen Global Workers' fundraising and development efforts.


Finally, the intern will be a team-player, and contribute to meeting the day-to-day needs of the Global Workers office. This may include, but is not limited to, daily office tasks, and occasional errands.


Requirements:


• The ideal candidate will commit to a 10-12 week internship between June-August.

• Commit to a min. 20 hours a week

• Have basic computer skills and knowledge of MS Office

• Be motivated, have strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task

• Have previous experience in the areas of fundraising & development, and/or communications and social media marketing, a plus.

• and, bilingualism (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required.

Legal Intern

Global Workers offers summer and in-semester internships, for law students. From our New York City office, interns will research issues related to portable justice for transnational migrants and assist in developing and managing a transnational advocate alliance. Spanish fluency is preferred, but not required. Unfortunately, Global Workers can not provide compensation.
