Waldemar Barrera first joined the Global Workers Defenders Network when he was the Human Rights Ombudsman in the regional office of Chiquimula. As the top-level human rights official in that region he was charged with investigating and denouncing human rights violations. After serving the government for twenty years, he is transitioning to the non-governmental sector where he seeks to focus on migration issues.
