Global Workers Defender Network

Defender Training, November 2009

Global Workers convened 13 organizations from Southern Mexico and Guatemala for the Second New Defender Training, which occurred in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, México November 17-19, 2009. The training, a three-day intensive training on U.S. employment-related law, trafficking, U.S. legal systems, and international law, is the first step for a human rights organization to join the Global Workers Defenders’ Network. As Defenders, they commit to facilitating cases for workers exploited in the United States, identifying new cases of labor exploitation, and educating migrants about their rights. In 2010 we look forward to a Defender network of 20 organizations strong in 5 Mexican and 5 Guatemalan states.
